Steve Jobs – The Apple of America’s Eye Has Died
Steve Jobs, the apple of America’s eye has died of pancreatic cancer after a long and tumultuous battle. He was 56 years young.
He was a co-founder of Apple along with Steve Wozniak and Mike Markkula, and acted as chairman, and former chief executive officer of Apple Inc. He was forced out of the company in the 1980’s after a difference of opinion but eventually returned.
One of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers was marketed by Jobs and eventually the company grew to include the ipad and iphone. He was the CEO and majority shareholder of Apple Inc. until 2006, when it was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. At 7%, Steve Jobs became Disney’s largest individual shareholder and a member of Disney’s Board of Directors.
Jobs was primary inventor or co-inventor in 338 US patents or patent applications related to a range of technologies.
In 2009 he underwent a liver transplant with an excellent prognosis and was expected to make a full recovery. Jobs announced his resignation from his role as Apple’s CEO on August 24, 2011 after much speculation about his deteriorating health.
Steve Jobs was 42nd wealthiest American with an estimated net wealth of $8.3 billion in 2010.
He will be greatly missed.
